Ok, the solution to install Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 on a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 is as follows:
If you’re trying to install Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, go to: http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/product/related-technologies/Pages/windows-sharepoint-services.aspx and get the latest Version of WSS 3.0 including SP2.
If you’re trying to install Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 SP1, you have to get the Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server and slipstream it into the original setup source files.
To do so, go to: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b7816d90-5fc6-4347-89b0-a80deb27a082&displaylang=en and download the x32 or x64 version of the Microsoft Office SharePoint Services Servicepack 2.
Filenames: officeserver2007sp2-kb953334-x64-fullfile-en-us.exe or officeserver2007sp2-kb953334-x86-fullfile-en-us.exe.
extract the Service Pack 2 using the commandline:
officeserver2007sp2-kb953334-x64-fullfile-en-us.exe /extract:<path>
You can extract the Service Pack directly into the Updates folder of the Microsoft SharePoint 2007 Source directory or you can extract it in a seperate directory and copy the extracted content the setup updates directory later on.
MOS2k7SP2_cmdStartSP2Extraction
Accept the End User License Agreement (EULA)
MOSS2k7SP2_EULA
Wait for the extraction process to complete..
MOSS2k7SP2_ExtractionProgress
Quit
MOSS2k7SP2_ExtractionComplete
Now copy the whole extracted content to the updates directory located in the sharepoint setup source directory.
MOSS2k7_UpdatesDirectory
when copying the content to the udpates folder, some files may already exist – i’ve chosen to overwrite all of them.
Finally start setup.exe again and install Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 SP2 Slipstreamed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 System 🙂
Feel free to comment.
Cheers

one thing i really hate about Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007 or MOSS 2007 is its complexity. Complex even to the point that the installation itself is so complex that it is not that easy to install on your PC. but thanks to the way you presented it here.. so clear and concise so it is easy to understand. i am actually still studying the technicalities of MOSS 2007 that’s why i am still searching for SharePoint Training anyway i have also read some info on http://www.solartechnj.com/sch_microsoft_sharepoint_training_moss.asp
