No more!
Apple is in a process of switching to iPod touch with a bar code scanner attachment. Apple was using these mobile point of sale (POS) terminals powered by Windows CE software because simply Microsoft had (still has?) a dominating position in enterprise-class handheld devices. However these devices were clunky, unreliable and simply not good looking enough for shiny shiny Apple stores.

While in past Microsoft was underlining that Windows handhelds are focused on professional applications and enterprises, clearly it was a mistake. Having millions over millions of consumer users means that mobile operating system of Apple mobile devices is very stable. Recently Apple released technical documentation and hardware components that are used to develop accessories that interact with iPod touch and iPhone so probably there will be more and more hardware accessories for these devices.

In this post i’m going to explain you how to make your website iPod touch player or iPhone and Android Mobile Phone friendly using an absolutely cool plugin called WPTouch.

By default, your site may look pretty good already, but i’m sure you will agree, this plugin (WPTouch) makes your site much more accessible for the mobile crowd. It also provides a more iPhone, iPod and Android friendly experience.

The brilliant thing with this approach is, you do NOT need to re-code a theme, or do any programming of any sort. All you have to do is install the plugin (WPTouch), activate it, and your done!

Installing the plugin WPTouch is pretty straight forward.

Switch to your WordPress Admin, choose Plugins (to the left), click Add New

Wordpress_Plugins_AddNew

Now, search the plugin named WPTouch ..then click on Install

Wordpress_Plugins_WPTouch_Install

Next click on Install now

Wordpress_Plugins_WPTouch_Install_2

WordPress will download the plugin automatically.. when done, click on Activate Plugin

Wordpress_Plugins_WPTouch_Downloaded_ActivatePlugin

The the installation of the plugin’s done and WPTouch should be activated. You can check this in the plugins section of WordPress Admin.

Optional step is configuring the WPTouch plugin. .i will not describe this in this post.. but it is pretty easy and not really necessary since that basic setup runs smooth.

Wordpress_Plugins_WPTouch_Configure

Did you know, when you connect to one of your Systems using Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection, you can choose whether you want to connect to the console or create a new terminal server session. If you always create console sessions, you will be able to re-use or reconnect to the last session..

Until today, i didn’t know, that a console session can be created using the Remote Desktop Connection Client GUI. In the past i always did something similiar to:

MSTSC.exe /v:MYSERVER:[PORT] /CONSOLE

or on systems with newer Remote Desktop Client Versions

MSTSC.exe /v:MYSERVER:[PORT] /ADMIN

When playing with display settings, local resources like (connecting printer or drives over a Remote Desktop Connection) the command line got a bit complex. Now since i bought an Apple MacBook Pro, and i faced the challenge to connect to my servers using the Mac OSX implementation of the Remote Desktop Connection, i realized, that it is possible to place a /CONSOLE or /ADMIN Parameter directly into the address textfield of the Mac OSX Remote Desktop Connection Client. So i figured out, that this can also be done using the Windows Remote Desktop Connection Client.

Tethering is using some type of mobile device to gain internet access on another device.

Tethering works by connecting a device that can access the internet (iPhone) to another device that cannot (i.e. your Notebook). This can be done using Bluetooth wireless technology or cables (such as USB), allowing the device without built-in access to connect to the internet, using the other device as a modem.

Starting from iPhone OS 3.0, tethering is supported by default. All you need is a configuration file for you Mobile Phone Provider like Swisscom, Orange, Sunrise, Vodaphone etc.. To get this file, check out the folliwing link.

http://www.iphone-notes.de/mobileconfig
